Want to Make Your Own Dairy Queen Buster Bar Dessert or Ice Cream Cake?
How many of you reading this have tried the ice cream cake bought at a Dairy Queen and loved the taste but not the price? Or you’ve bought a buster bar and wished you could make something like it at home. If you’re like me, you’ve wished that you could enjoy this treat more often but can’t justify the cost. Boy, have I got good news for you! After searching and searching for a recipe that would taste as good as a DQ treat, I came upon a recipe in my own recipe box!
This recipe is for a dessert called Buster Bars but with just a little modifying, it becomes a DQ ice cream cake too!
Buster Bars
1 bag crushed Oreo cookies
½ cup (1 stick) melted margarine
Crush the Oreo’s in a plastic bag and place them in the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch pan. Melt the margarine and stir in to the crushed cookies. Press crust down firmly with a fork.
Open up a ½ gallon box of vanilla ice cream and cut it into 1 inch slices. Place each slice on to the crust and cut the slices, as needed, to cover up the crust. Sprinkle 1 ½ cups salted Spanish peanuts on top and place the pan in the freezer while you complete the next step.
Over medium/high heat, combine 2 cups powder sugar, 12 oz (1 ½ cups) evaporated milk and ½ cup (1 stick) margarine. Boil for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and add 2/3 cup chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Drizzle on top of ice cream and freeze immediately. After dessert is set, enjoy!
Now, to modify this in to a delicious cake, start at the top of the recipe and make these two modifications. Skip the peanuts and then after the above dessert has set, add 2 cups of Cool Whip to the very top. The nice thing about this cake is that you can actually decorate it for a birthday, anniversary, or whatever special occasion you are having. Just purchase some Wilton frosting tubes and write your sentiments on top or go to your local cake/candy store, and purchase decorations.
You won’t believe how popular this cake is! I have a large family and make this for every birthday party we have. Let me know if it’s as popular with your family as it is with mine!
