Walk to Defeat ALS….because you can!
![]()
This Saturday, August 22nd, the Walk to Defeat ALS will be taking place at Gooseberry Park in Moorhead.
ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. Every 90 minutes, a person is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes, another person dies from ALS.
You can choose to participate in the event by joining a team and walking OR you can choose to participate by supporting an existing team, like Jerrod’s Guys and Gals, with a monetary donation. This team consists of a group of family and friends who are walking in support of Jerrod Wamre. I work with Jerrod’s wife, Sheila, at the FargoDome, and hope that everyone will support this cause that is so dear to their hearts!
My brother lost a dear friend to this disease two years ago and I learned firsthand from him, what a terrible disease this is. This disease knows no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries. This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the meantime, it costs an average $200,000 a year to provide the care that ALS patients need. This is a worthy cause that needs donations so that a cure can be found and the lives of all of those that it affects can be spared the suffering that they inevitably have to go through. On average, $0.91 of every dollar raised through the Walk to Defeat ALS supports the mission of the ALS Association.
If you choose to make a donation, your donations will support cutting-edge research, education programs, counseling and support groups and so much more! Help those affected by this disease and make a difference by taking the steps towards a cure….. because YOU can and many of those affected by this disease….. can not!
