Time for Sunscreen – Tips for Toddler Application!
Last weekend, one of our first sunny weekends in Fargo-Moorhead, reminded me that I need to get out the sunscreen and get it on my children. I was at Lindenwood Park, watching the kids play and noticed, ok… heard, and very frustrated toddler who did not want his mother to put sunscreen on him. I want to share a couple of tips that I have come across and used that has helped me get through some heated, excuse the pun, moments with my own children.
MD Moms has sunscreen wipes to purchase at their site, MDmoms.com. They aren’t cheap, but they are very moisturizing and smell wonderful. The little packets are easy to pack in a diaper bag, your pockets, or in the car. They never caused eye irritation like some others do.
It is sometimes difficult to work around bangs and sunscreen, because the hair gets in the way. I keep a couple of headbands in the diaper bag to pull the hair back while I apply the sunscreen. It works like a charm and within a few minutes, the sunscreen has soaked in and I simply take the headbands off. If you don’t like this idea, try the sunscreen sticks. I also try to put the first application of sunscreen on my children before we get into the car and head for the pool. This alleviates the wait time that they don’t like once they get to the pool and want to dive in. Always remember though, to reapply often, especially when they are in the sun for a long time.
All three of my children have very sensitive skin. I had been using Banana Boat Ultra Defense on their faces, because they have no complaints with the stinging. I was recently shopping at the Moorhead Wal-mart and found their brand, Equate for a few dollars cheaper than the name brand version. I was worried that my children’s sensitive skin might react to it, but I had the same results as the other brand, for less money.
