St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Fargo – Get Your Green On!

Submitted by on March 8, 2010 – 6:00 amNo Comment

imagesIt seems like everyone is a bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! This year, you can get into the Irish action a few days early at the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Fargo. The parade will be held on March 13th at 3:00 on Broadway. It starts at NP Avenue and Broadway, and moves north on Broadway to 6th Ave.  I took my kids to the parade last year and they had a great time. What’s not to love? Shamrocks, Leprechauns, and Irish music and dancing! There is also a free movie at the Fargo Theater. This “Irish” movie won an academy award in 2006. It is a romantic musical titled “Once” and starts at noon. Did I mention this is free? If you are craving Irish cuisine, many of the Fargo downtown establishments will have plenty on their menus.

If you would like to participate in the parade, you still have time. They are taking registration forms through March 11th.  For registration details, click here. Parade participants can start lining up at 1:30 in the Old Broadway parking lot. This year’s parade sponsors include VFW Post 762, Duffy’s, Dempsey’s, Bennigan’s, Empire, Bismarck Tavern, Fort Noks, Kennelly & O’Keefe, Old Broadway, Rooter’s, Shamrock Marketing, Hotel Donaldson, State Bank & Trust, Chub’s Pub, Local 642 Firefighters, the Nestor, and Accurate Construction.

Did you know that the tradition of the St. Patrick’s Day parade started in New York City in 1762 to honor the saint who drove the snakes from Ireland?  Now you can continue the tradition, take a break from thinking about the flood, and get your green on. This would also be a great way to warm up for the Bon Jovi concert. Hope to see you on Broadway. With some luck of the Irish, the weather will cooperate and the leprechauns will be out in full force.
