Are you looking to keep your child active and involved this summer?   Is the thought of listening to, “I’m bored”, “I’m hungry”, “I’m hot”, “What’s there to do?”, making you crazy already?  Well look no further than right here in the F-M area.  There are many summer camps and activities for all ages.

For preschoolers ages 3-5 there is the YMCA Busy Beaver Camp going on throughout June, July, and August.  This is a fun filled week of arts & crafts, nature lore, songs & games, and working & playing with friends. This will be an awesome week for your camper as they have lots of fun and enjoy some new friendships along the way.  The class themes included Dinosaurs, Blast Off to Space, Kids in the Kitchen, Camping, Tumbling Tykes, Down on Grandpa’s Farm, Let’s Make Music, and Fun in the Sun.  Most sessions are one week and run from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  If your work or family schedule doesn’t fit with the camp schedule, the YMCA offers short-term care service which is two hours or less.  By utilizing this extended day service you will have the option of dropping your child off each day on your way to work.  This makes it easier on the entire family.  So check out the dates and get ready for a week of fun for your little tyke.

There are many athletic camps going on throughout the summer for ages 6-17.  They range from baseball, basketball, football, hockey, volleyball, tennis, and much more.  Check out these camps in Fargo and Moorhead.

MSUM College for Kids is for children ages 8-14.  These camps run Monday through Thursday July 12-15, 2010 and July 19-22, 2010.  Classes include Pottery on the Wheel, Fit N Fun, Bugs, Birds, and Beyond, It’s 3D to Me Creations, Journey to Egypt, Grossology, WHO-Dunnit?, Glass Beadmaking, Learn to be a Magician with Jack Sand, Sports Excel, Krazy Khemistry for Kids, Book It Artistic Explorations, Step Into the Magic of Colors, MotoTechs I, MotoTechs II, The DaVinci Code, and Create with Clay.  As you can see there is something for every child.  These classes are sure to be a hit with your child.

Do you think your child may be interested in a musical theater camp?  Disney’s Aladdin Jr. will be produced this June for anyone completing grades 5-8.  Students will study acting, dance, voice, and more, as well as help craft scenery, costumes, and props to be used in their musical.  Everyone will be cast as a singer, dancer, and/or actor.  There will be a parent/student information meeting on Monday, June 7th at 6:30 p.m. at Moorhead High School.  Class begins June 8, 2010 and run through June 30th.  Classes run Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This list only covers a small percentage of the goings-on in our community this summer.  As you can see there are plenty of activities for all age groups.  So sit down and talk with your child about their interests and find out which camp/class is best suited for them.  Summertime can be fun!  Remember…. don’t count the days, make the days count!

Very good suggestions here. My kids’ favorite thing in the summer is swimming.

My child loved the Busy Beaver Camp. That is something I would recommend.

My little one loves T ball but there are many other games if you have older kids that they can join. I think you would check with the parks and recreation to find out more.
