If you have been wondering if the car seat in your car is installed properly, and you live in or around the Fargo Moorhead area, I have some good news for you!  Whereas it used to be somewhat difficult to

 find a time that you could get to one of the local car seat fit clinics, Safe Kids Fargo/Moorhead is now conducting car seat checks up at The Safety Shoppe EVERY Monday and Thursday of each month, from 3p-6p.

This unique “shoppe” is a wonderful addition to our area as it will help ensure that the most precious cargo that we transport around town, our children, are protected in the way they should be.

Did you know that statistically 4 out of 5 car seats are installed incorrectly?!  Did you know that the number one most common car seat misuse is not getting the car seat tight enough in the vehicle?  What?  Not getting it tight enough, you ask?  How can that be?!  You’ve buckled it up and pulled on the belt, as hard as you could, so it must be tight enough.  Think again.  Next time, put your knee in to the seat of the car seat and put all of your body weight in to it, all the while pulling on the seat belt to tighten it.  There.  Now how much tighter were you able to secure the seat by just doing that one thing?  These are the kinds of things that the Safety Shoppe will be able to help you figure out.   

Our area is very fortunate to have a Safety Shoppe because they have trained technicians who will be available to assist parents, grandparents, caregivers, etc. on the proper installation of car seats.  They are also knowlegable on what car seats are best for which age of children, how a tether strap should be strapped in to a vehicle and so many other things!  It is often difficult to tell when a child is old enough to “graduate” to the next size of car seat and now you have these people available to assist you, as your child grows.
