Moorhead Public Library – A New Look with Many Updates
Looking for a quiet place to relax in Fargo-Moorhead, check out the Moorhead Public Library. The library recently completed renovations, all of which provide a warm atmosphere that is high tech and user friendly. A leaky roof and new paint colors were two of the changes, along with many other updates in the 20 year old library.
Throughout the last twenty year, technology has changed the way a typical library operates. Computers and the Internet allow staff members to access expanding databases, find answers to questions or just the right book for customers, and handle materials. Computers decreased the needed behind-the-scenes spaces in which the staff members work. Fargo-Moorhead customers also expressed their desire for additional public access to computers and the Internet.
The City of Moorhead allocated $100,000 for the new upgrades. They remodeled staff work space into a large computer room, while reducing the size of work space into a more efficient area. They doubled the amount of computers for public access, so they now have 20 computers available at all times. This means less waiting for the general public. Along with the computers, they purchased new tables and chairs. Staff is still available to help, but people no longer have to spend time waiting in line to sign up for a computer, pay for the printer, and similar tasks. Customers can take college tests on-line, complete resumes, or apply for jobs. They can connect with family members, play games, listen to music, check out websites such as Directory of Fargo-Moorhead.com – all things that people can do when connected to the Internet.
The book selection is extensive, and the staff members are always helpful. The library is also very family friendly. The library has many activities for children. My own kids love to go to the Moorhead library. We make the trip at least once a week, because there is always plenty to do, and check out at the library.
