FM Local Connect on Facebook

Submitted by on June 23, 2010 – 10:25 amOne Comment

A new page has been created on facebook that should interest everyone in the Fargo/Moorhead area.  FM Local Connect brings small local businesses and non-profits together with area residents to promote and market at no cost.  As a small business owner and non-profit organizer I find it increasingly hard to find ways to reach the public because of the lack of funds for advertising.  In visiting with others in the community we came up with this cost effective solution.

FM Local Connect on facebook features one local business a week by using their logo for the profile picture and posts updates, links and information about the featured business.  Other businesses can post information, special promotions and sales whenever they want and join discussions on the topics that apply to retail, non-profits and consumers.

Old 52 General Store in Sabin, MN was the first featured business on FM Local Connect

For this to work like it should we hope to have any and everyone from the FM area on the site.  The more residents in the group the more businesses will be involved and save $, the more businesses in the group the more residents will join and save $.

We also now have a sister group ‘Fargo, Moorhead it’s YOUR Town’ a group designed for you to give input and express your interest in OUR community.  There are many great discussions going on in this group including the prospect of  creating a ‘Dinky Town’ in Moorhead, and what Fargo or Moorhead is missing.  Many residents are already chiming in to these topics and is a wonderful way for us all to come together and share ideas.

More and more the social network scene is becoming increasingly useful and a great way for us all to help each other out.

I am the owner of 3 Little Birds Landscaping in Moorhead, MN, an Ambassador for the National Wildlife Federation's Wildlife Habitat Program, coordinator for my families Birds For Brains Project and member of the Valley Earth Week Committee. I bleed green (even a Green Bay Packer fan, but please don't hold that against me:). With my business and my volunteer work I strive to help make the FM area a better environment to live in and help this region stay rated #1 as the best Earth Friendly Community to live, as rated by the Earth Day Network. I am available for consulting on the Wildlife Habitat Program and hope to change the landscape around us. The project I am working on now is to start a local Wild Ones Chapter. This will help me get my ducks in a row and hopefully find more people willing to volunteer and improve the community that we live in. My first blog will cover this topic and I hope my future blogs will show how easy it is to garden for wildlife, sustainability and to beautify the FM area.
