The Wedding Show 2012 – Fargo-Moorhead Area

The Wedding Show 2012 will take place at the Ramada Plaza & Suites on Sunday, January 22, 2012, from 12 to 4 p.m. Everything will be held in the Crystal Ballroom.

This show makes it easier to talk to vendors and actually get your services booked while at the show. No waiting in lines.

Free admission for brides and grooms, others $8. Style shows will take place at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30.

Grand prize of a bridal package worth over $15,000 will be awarded. Bride must be present to win.

If you are a vendor, check out the vendor package available to you.

Music for the Heart Presented at Sanford Health with the FM Symphony Orchestra

I ran across this mini-concert quite by accident. I was on my way to visit a friend at the Sanford Heart Center when I heard this beautiful music coming from the atrium. After a little research I found out that Sanford Health and the FM Symphony Orchestra (FMSO) were presenting a series of concerts titled “Music for the Heart” for an hour at lunchtime twice a month right there at the Broadway and 8th Avenue entrance.

From noon to 1pm twice a month through April, soloists or small chamber ensembles from within the FMSO are performing. It’s open to the public and FREE. I couldn’t stay and listen to the entire performance this past Thursday, the 12th but am making plans to be there for the next one on Thursday, January 26, 2012.

Here’s the schedule for the remaining concerts with the performers listed, if I knew them (all are on Thursdays):

If you want a chance to get away (as your mind drifts with the music) then stop by these noon concerts. Bring your own lunch or purchase something at the Sanford cafeteria. Again, you just go in the main entrance for Sanford at Broadway and 8th Avenue North here in Fargo. The performance is right in the atrium.

West Fargo Winter Days – January 11-21, 2012

The West Fargo Park District is again hosting the West Fargo Winter Days beginning Wednesday, January 11, 2012 running through Saturday, January 21. Winter Days kicks off with a Silver Snowflake Search on the 11th. This sounds like a lot of fun and there is a fantastic prize package for each of five snowflakes found. Here are the official search rules and clues (and what the five prize packages include).

Check out the day-to-day events during Winter Days. My two young cousins plan to attend the Polar Bear Pool Party on Monday, January 16 at LE Berger from 130p to 330pm. Also, the 20th Annual Snow Golf Tournament on Saturday, January 21 at North Elmwood Park should be loads of fun.

Some of the activities require registration (or a small fee though most activities are FREE) so check out all the events and enjoy the mild weather we’re enjoying during Winter Days.

Monty Python’s Spamalot Presented by Gate City Bank Theatre at the FARGODOME

If you grew up watching the characters portrayed by Eric Idle, John Cleese, and the rest of the cast on the TV series Monty Python, you will love Monty Python’s Spamalot being presented at the FARGODOME by the Gate City Bank Theatre. The performance is on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 8pm (the doors open at 7pm.)

This performance is described as a new musical “lovingly” ripped off from the motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It follows King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they set off on their search for the Holy Grail. There are many show-stopping tunes as well as some flying cows and killer rabbits (again, if you’ve watched any Monty Python, not totally unexpected.)

I rarely miss any of the Gate City Bank Theatre presentations during the year. This performance is certainly not going to be one of them. Tickets are still available. Prices are $26.50, $41.50, and $54. Prepare yourself for some hearty laughs and enjoy!

Mark Loock Benefit at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead

I was driving home yesterday and was reminded of the Mark Loock benefit on the signboard out front at the Moorhead Fire Department on 1st Ave in Moorhead. I was happy for it. With all of the activities going on around the area, I appreciate a subtle reminder once in a while.

The benefit for Mark Loock will be held at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead (at 218 10th St S) on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. The supper and silent auction run from 500pm-800pm. The Olive Garden in Fargo has donated the meal! Free will donations will be accepted at the supper.

The proceeds will go towards helping the family with their medical crisis and providing Mark with equipment to help with his mobility, etc. Mark was diagnosed with Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in January of 2011.

There are several ways you can make a donation. First, you can go online at the DMF Lend a Hand site and enter your tax deductible donation (DMF Lend a Hand is providing up to $5000 of matching funds). You may also mail in a donation to Loock Benefit Fund, First International Bank, 3001 25th St S, Fargo, ND 58103. If you would like to donate a silent auction item, please drop it off at St. Joe’s or call Bobbi Mercil at (701)866-5706.

Stop by on Tuesday and enjoy a fantastic meal and look over the auction items!
